At Parsons Paris, the junior BFA fashion design students and strategic design and management students were challenged by Italian heritage brand, CERRUTI, and world renowned wool producer, The Woolmark Company to create a genderless capsule collection and business plan.
My group, consisting of four designers and two managers, won first place in this competition and were published in DSECTION magazine.
"Through the Storm" was inspired by surreal art, specifically the work of artists Dali and Magritte. Just as surrealism challenges are preconditioned perceptions of reality, we wanted to challenge people's preconditioned perception of gender and how it relates to fashion. "Through the Storm" refers to the rainy and stormy environment derived from our mood board but also to a metaphoric "storm", an emotional and romantic one. Overall, our collection stayed true to the Cerruti DNA and brand sophistication while still moving forward in a progressive and innovative direction.
